Reflection: “Technology, like art, is a soaring exercise of the human imagination.” -Daniel Bell
Today, I’m grateful for: technology.
Challenge: Consider all the ways technology adds value to your life.
In these days where we are working to simplify our life as much as possible, I’m grateful for technology. Despite being both a blessing and a curse at times, the conveniences technology offers adds real value to my day-to-day life. Everything from hands-free devices, to mobile capabilities to voice-activated features, technology helps me to remain functional, productive and organized in a time where, to be honest, NOTHING feels functional, productive or organized!
It seems so silly, but the little things like being able to tell Alexa to close the shades while we get Calvin ready for bed, or ask her to add items to the shopping list so I don’t forget (because I clearly can’t be trusted to remember things myself), or the ability to take calls in the car using wireless headphones and my hands-free device....all these little conveniences add up to help take some measurable level of stress and mental load off of my plate. And for that, I am grateful.
Apps that remind me when it’s time to water my plants, or observe my son from the other room as he rests peacefully in his bed, or allow me to shop, order and deliver groceries straight to my front door, or offer mindfulness meditations that help me wind down, quiet my mind and get a restful night’s sleep...all things that I can’t take for granted. I am grateful for each and every one of these conveniences, and the simplicity and peace of mind they add to my life.
Technology is kind of like the perfect representation of “an art and a science”. We take the scientific nature of technology and apply it to add value to our lives in the most creative ways. Who ever could’ve imagined that one day, we would be able to book travel, invest in the stock market, send and receive mail to people from all over the world, or even meet our soulmates right in the palms of our hands?? Seems a little crazy when you think about it, but at the end of the day, if used wisely, technology has, and will continue to add value to our lives. And did that, I am grateful.
