Self-care & soul nourishment

March 31, 2021

Reflection: It’s up to us to make time for ourselves

Today, I’m grateful: A soul-nourishing day

Challenge: Write out and try out a full morning routine

Do you ever have those days where you just set your soul right from the beginning? Where you get your mind right and your body right and your heart right, and it just sets you on a trajectory of goodness?....if I’m being honest, I haven’t had a day like that in a while. Call it cabin fever, call it the pandemic winter blues, call it seasonal depression, whatever you call it, it’s been tough to wake up on the right side of the bed the last couple months, but today was different.

I kicked off my day with a nice, long shower.... Admittedly, it’s sad that as a mom, a shower is considered self-care....like, WOW. I am so #blessed. I can’t believe I could afford myself the luxury of personal hygiene 😒Regardless, it was nice and refreshing and much-needed.

Next up was my robust skincare routine. Throughout the early stages of the pandemic, I replaced my makeup regimen with a nice skincare routine, but somewhere between the mid-pandemic fatigue and Winter settling in, I managed to fall off the consistency. I forgot how much I enjoyed it...😇

Fresh pour over coffee was next. Freshly ground beans paired with frothed half and half made for the perfect cup. And the warmth of that first sip was seriously delightful. Mmmmmm. 😋

Lately, I haven’t done a good job of carving out time for a workout, but today, I squeezed one into my busy day. I’m not sure if it was coincidence, or me just generally being more conscious about my time, but it was great to have a midday pick-me-up that was good for me and baby too. 💪🏻

A few other things that made this a great day:

  • A soul nourishing chat with a friend

  • A simple-but-favorite go-to lunch (hummus, cheese and crackers 😜)

  • Cheerful chats with my mom for her birthday

  • Some quality time in the car with my husband as we drove to pick up our son

  • A fun swimming lesson for Calvin

  • An easy dinner on-the-go (Chipotle...duh?!)

  • A refreshing, clean kitchen

  • A healthy, sleeping baby

Today, I’m grateful for a yummy day, start to finish. It was a great reminder of the importance of taking the time to myself each morning to center myself, to set my mind and heart right and to take on the day gratefully and fearlessly.
