Reflection: Quality time can come in many forms....especially these days.
Today, I’m grateful for: Some simple quality time with my spouse.
Challenge: How can you take a normal activity and turn it into something meaningful?
Tuesday nights are special in our house for a reason that in my past, I would be embarrassed to admit.... our favorite show is on! Dan and I aren’t much “TV-people”, but we have ONE show we like to watch called “This Is Us.” It’s honest, emotionally-gripping and it’s the one show each week we look forward to watching.
But it’s not just the show that I love. It’s the fact that for one-hour each (most) weeks, our life slows down just enough for the two of us to sit on the couch and enjoy an activity together. That we can shut off (or shut out) all the other distractions and tasks of life, and just BE. Sometimes, we’ll even sprinkle in an interesting snack just to spice things up a bit. 😆It’s our very own, at-home date night and I love it.
Idk about you, but as adults, as parents, as humans co-habitating with a child during this pandemic, it’s become increasingly difficult to find time to not only step away, but to enjoy true quality time with my significant other. It feels as though we’ve found ourselves in this cycle of grinding that has just become the new normal. And even though I’m not sure I would classify “lounging on the couch watching a TV show” as quality time, it fills one of the many holes that have been created as we’ve all survived our way through the last year.
I’m so grateful for small moments like these. Simple moments we can share in peace. A brief moment that satisfies that thirst for any level of “normalcy” as we might define it these days. It’s not perfect. It’s not glamorous. But it’s us. This...is us.
