Reflection: Being a mother is my favorite job.

Today, I’m grateful for: my son

Challenge: What do you love about being a mother?

My dear, sweet Calvin. You are the most interesting person to me. Being your mother, and an observer in your journey, a shadow on your path, a witness in awe of your adventure...is my favorite place to be. My “job” as your mother is an ever-evolving, never-ending array of glorified suggestions, but ultimately, my goal is just to help you on your journey to living your best life. At the end of the day, I am here for YOU. You were chosen for me for a reason, and we are both students of this process as we journey through life together.

I am grateful for your lessons, and what I learn from you each day. I am grateful for your patience and unconditional grace, even when I don’t always get it quite right. And I’m grateful for your trust...because it instills a validating sense of satisfaction in me that if nothing else, I must be doing at least some things right. In an unforgiving, divisive, quick-to-judge world, you remind me of what matters most, and for that, I am grateful.

I love you sweet boy. Thank you for making me a mother.
