Reflection: Music is a powerful tool.

Today, I’m grateful for: music

Challenge: Build a “feel good” playlist.

Music has always played a big role in my life. From starting to dance at 3 years old, to growing up on 80s classic rock to now living in the conveniences of the streaming days with access to any song or album I could ever want right at my fingertips (kids these days will seriously never know the pains of tapes, CDs, and dare I say it...Limewire!), I’ve always had an appreciation for music and the comfort and joy it brings.

I’ve learned that music has the power to significantly influence my mood and bring with it a vast array of emotions. It can uplift and motivate. It can encourage and empower. But it can also soften and somber. Or draw out emotion that has clearly been built up for awhile awaiting the right moment to be released.

You know how they say sometimes you just “need a good cry”? Well I think music is one way to facilitate the release of those emotions. As a scorpio, I am definitely guilty of falling victim to the seemingly endless “sad-song cycle” that tends to snowball into some form of ugly crying in the car. (Don’t lie, we’ve all done it.) But I’m also the type of person who has a purposefully curated “feel good” playlist to help kickstart my day, inspire a positive attitude or stop an impending depressive episode (ok, I’m being dramatic, but you know what I mean) in its tracks.

Today, I’m feeling grateful for music. For the joys and comforts it brings, and the role it plays on getting me through my day(s).

What are your go-to “feel good” songs? Here’s my playlist: (now accepting new additions!)
