Reflection: It takes a village to raise a child, and it takes a village to support a mama.
Today, I’m grateful for: my son, the one who made me “mother”.
Challenge: Text your mom friends. Remind them they’re not alone 🤍
Today was the best day. Our little family indulged in a full day of carefree timelessness and Calvin and Dan were sure to make this Mother’s Day an extra special one. I got lots of friendly texts from friends and loved ones throughout the day too, and I feel so grateful my village. As one of my mama friends said, it takes a village to raise a child, and it takes a village to support a mama too! And I couldn’t agree more!
I started my day with a special breakfast prepared by Dan (and Calvin). I even got to drink 2 whole cups of coffee before they got cold! 😝 After breakfast, we made some homemade granola bars and then we held up our annual Mother’s Day tradition of watching my favorite movie together (Home Alone😛). Next up was lunch, and then we laid down for a family nap. (I don’t care how old you are, naps are always a good idea.) After nap, we decided to venture out to a nearby park that we’ve never been to before. It’s always fun watching Calvin explore new things. 😊
We made a spontaneous decision to drive to Ames and get dinner at Hickory Park. Calvin LOVED it, and we of course had to top off dinner with a yummy ice cream sundae for dessert. When we got home, I found a beautiful Mother’s Day surprise on the doorstep from my dear friend Kasey! A gorgeous bouquet with a Starbucks card attached (she knows me well 😊). It was the perfect surprise to end a wonderful day, and I’m feeling so grateful.
Grateful for my son, the one who made me a mother. The one who taught me the true meaning of unconditional love. Grateful for my husband, the one who joins me in this force of parenthood with grace and strength, weathering every storm and relishing in every joy right by my side. Grateful for my fellow mama friends. The ones who lift my spirits and remind me that I’m not alone in this. And grateful for my own mama. The one who showed me first what it means to be a mother, and now again, helps to guide and support me through my owns trial and triumphs as a mother myself. I am so blessed and it’s days like these that help me to live (and love) in the moment.
