Reflection: Humans need connection

Today, I’m grateful for: quality catch-up time with a friend

Challenge: Call up an old friend

Over the last year or so, it seems I’ve fallen into a habit of going, going, going like the Energizer bunny. It was about a year ago when work and home life became fully integrated, and it seems those experiences paved the path for the days of now where work and home life (and everything in between) seem to intertwine like never before. It’s not exactly clear where one ends and the other begins, and in reflection, I think I’ve lost some of the little things in between that used to come naturally, but just aren’t part of our “normal” right now.

Things like desk-side chats or afternoon patio happy hours when the first sunny days of spring pop up. Leaving work at work, and not feeling guilty when I don’t pop my email open a few times each night. Habits that I didn’t even realize were being formed.

Today, I had the opportunity to spend some long overdue time catching up with a friend. It was good for my heart, good for my soul, and good for my mind. It reminded me of better times and offered an opportunity to share some much-needed connection. And I am truly grateful.
