Reflection: Joy can be found in any moment.

Today, I’m grateful for: Another chapter completed in our basement finish and the joyful crew that helped us get the job done.

Challenge: Sing your favorite song.

Over the last week or so, we’ve been having the drywall work finished in our basement. Despite our original intention to finish the project in its entirety on our own, our new circumstances with this pregnancy have introduced new variables to our decision-making process. And as with everything else we are working to find new normals for, we have to let go of plans and expectations, and think a little bit differently about how we will approach the remainder of the project.

The crew that has been coming and going has offered a refreshing spark of joy in each day. Aside from the fact that they’re taking a huge weight off our shoulders, they’ve done so with such grace and passion. Each day, they would show up ready to take on the day. They’d click on their tunes and sing their way through the work day. I listened in from upstairs in smiley amazement. Hours and hours of nonstop hard work and yet it seemed to bring them so much joy. So much so that it was bringing ME joy just bearing witness to a team who clearly loved what they did (and were good at it too!)

I can’t say that I’ve ever sang my way through a workday, but I think I can empathize with the sense of contentment and peace they seemed to exude. I was inspired by their spirit and I think there’s something I can learn from it. It brought me back to my gratitude practice. It reminded me that there IS joy in each day, and even in any moment if we choose to look for it.

They wrapped up the job today, and if I’m being honest, I’m a little sad. Of course, it is a huge relief to have another big chapter of the basement finish completed, but I’m going to miss hearing those tweedles and song tunes beneath my feet all day, and the positive energy they brought into our home.

Today, I’m grateful for the completion of another big chapter in our basement finish project. But also the lessons and reminders gained from the team who helped get the job done.
